An introduction to Narrative Practice
Course details
Aim: This session will support you to understand the principles of narrative practice - and give you opportunities to ask lots of questions and give it a go.
Date: Wednesday 16 April 2025 and Monday 22 September 2025
Time: 9.30am - 4.30pm
Venue: Gateshead Council's Learning Centre
Facilitator: Heather Jenkins - Service Lead (IRO)
Learning objectives:
- The challenge for all of us who work with children and their families is to stop, reflect on our purpose, recognise what a privilege it is to tread within their lives and give them the honesty and respect they deserve. In doing so, this is to be truly accountable and professional.
- The things we write about are their lived experiences. We should set this down in such a way that they understand and can relate to and to show our efforts to truly empathise and connect with them. In doing so, this is to be truly relational and professional.
- We need to be accountable for the decisions we make and moving away from jargon. This challenges us to explain and analyse to a far greater depth. In doing so, this is to be truly skilled, knowledgeable and professional.
Suitable for:
Anyone working alongside children who want to ensure that their documents are clear, relevant and accessible for children and their families.
