What is safeguarding?

Safeguarding means protecting someone's health, wellbeing and human rights so that they can live free from harm, abuse and neglect.

Those most in need of protection include:

  • children and young people
  • adults at risk, such as those who receive care in their own home, people with physical, sensory and mental impairments, and those with learning disabilities

We all have a role to play to safeguard children and adults at risk of abuse or neglect.

If you have a general enquiry about the work of the Gateshead Safeguarding Adults Board or the Gateshead Safeguarding Children Partnership please get in touch.
