National Testing of the UK's new Emergency Alerts system on Sunday 23 April 2023 - vulnerable users
There will be a national test of the UK's new Emergency Alerts system on Sunday 23 April at 3pm. The test alert will be sent to most mobile phones across the UK. Devices will make a distinct, siren-like sound for up to 10 seconds, including on phones switched to silent mode. Phones will also vibrate and display a message about the test.
Whilst communication around the scheduled alert in the run up to 23 April is being shared, partners should be mindful of targeted awareness raising communication to go out to our most vulnerable service users, which may include:
- older people in our care provisions who may be upset/confused by the loud alert
- service users with secret/hidden second phones, such as those who access DA support services
- those who access our SEND service and may be upset by the loud alert
- Ukrainian nationals who are now living in Gateshead via the Homes for Ukraine scheme/other who may be disturbed by the alert.
