Safeguarding Week runs annually and is promoted and supported by the Ann Craft Trust (opens new window). This is a time for organisations to come together to raise awareness of important safeguarding issues. The aim is to highlight key safeguarding issues, start conversations and raise awareness of safeguarding best practice.
Gateshead Safeguarding Adults Board and Gateshead Safeguarding Children Partnership and are joining together during the national adults Safeguarding Week 2024, to raise awareness about safeguarding both children and adults and showing the importance of "safeguarding being everyone's business".
Safeguarding children, young people, adults and families remains a priority for all of us. Help us to make our first joint Safeguarding Week a success by celebrating and sharing good practice, and raising awareness of the services you provide to protect and support all people in Gateshead.

Wednesday 20 November 10.30am to 12.30pm | The Lawnmowers Theatre Company - Mate/ Hate Crime Awareness Come and join the Lawnmowers Theatre Company, a theatre company ran by for and with people with learning disabilities as they explore the issue of mate crime through a live show. The training will involve a 20-minute showing of their play called "Friday Friends." This play highlights the risks that People with Learning disabilities face and how vulnerable they can be. We discuss what true friendship means and how people vulnerabilities can be exploited. You will also get the chance to look at the failings to protect our character and how it could have gone better by rerunning the play to see what support and choice was available to the character. Our seasoned and highly trained learning disabled actors will also train your safeguarding gut. Friday 22 November 11.30am to 12.30pm | Change, grow, live - Hidden Harm This session is with the children's drug and alcohol service and explores the hidden harm for a child who is experiencing parental/carer substance and alcohol misuse.
